The damage assessment should be carried out in three phases:

1. Immediate measures (phase 1):

• Analysis of the possible damage and initiation of the necessary damage reduction measures
• Collection of suitable statistical bases on the basis of the accounting system of the policyholder/damaged party

2. Analysis and continuous monitoring (phase 2):

• Data analysis and tabular evaluations for later damage calculation
• Development of basics for the calculation of payments on account to be made
• Ongoing monitoring of damage mitigation measures and their costs

3. Damage calculation (phase 3):

• Separation of the variable and fixed costs saved due to the business interruption/damaging event.
• Ongoing discussion of the findings with the insurer and the policyholder/damaged party or his attorney
• Development of a solution acceptable to all sides through coordinated and joint approach
